Omah Lay, one of Covibes Top 10 Nigerian Producers (June 2020)

Following the success release of the Covibes Top 10 Nigerian producers for May, we decided to go through the entire process just for your pleasure. toil through data in June to understand the trending producers.

Our Method

Just like last month’s edition, data is the basis on which the list is compiled. We noted the standing of each . The reason we use Boomplay is because they release an official monthly chart. While Apple releases its Nigeria Top 100, it’s a daily release. Spotify does not have an official Top Nigerian list (no, surprise there). While there are playlists that cater to Nigerian music, they are user-generated and the method is not verifiable.

Highlights

  • The usual culprits made June’s Top 10 producers. Take a guess and you would be right.
  • Very little is known about the producers in the gospel industry. After much digging, one of the producers made the list. He is the genius behind some of Mercy Chinwo’s hit songs
  • We had new entrants as well on our top 10 list
  • As you would expect, there was a slight reshuffle in this edition. Some dropped off, others switched locations and others stood their ground.

Without further ado, here they are and the songs that got them on the list;

  1. PheelzEnergy, Wait & See, Scatter, High On Life, Need You , Gbas Gbos , What If I say — Fireboy DML and Billionaire — Teni
  2. Rexxie — His roster includes newly released Okoto by Broda Shaggi and already released Aye, Dibo Lobo, Soapy, Tesumole and Pxta — Naira Marley and Anybody — Burna Boy
  3. DJ Coublon — New entrant — Aii, Boys are Bad, Tempted to Steal and Ada all by Kizz Daniel
  4. Israel Dammy — You’ve probably never heard of him but he’s earned a place on our list. He is an in-house producer with Eezee concepts, the label Mercy Chinwo is signed on. He has been instrumental in the release of Obinasom, Akamdinelu and Omekannaya all by Mercy Chinwo
  5. Oscar — Duduke, Joromi and Complete Me all by Simi.
  6. P.Priime — Isolate ft DJ Neptune — Teni, Unripe Pawpaw — Zlatan, and the song we all love Like I do — Fireboy DML.
  7. Dera — Baby and Call by Joeboy
  8. Omah Lay — His debut EP Get Layd has seen him rise in the industry. He is the first African artist to be highlighted by the Africa Rising initiative launched by Apple Music. He is a singer/songwriter and producer. The songs that put him on the list are Bad Influence, and Lo Lo.
  9. Beats by KO — Don’t Call Me Back and All for You by Joeboy
  10. Cracker Mallo — Feel, Jealous by Fireboy DML and Wonma by Olamide
